INDRAMAYU, (Indonesia) OMIKAMI TV - Pertamina RU VI Balongan oil refinery, Indramayu Regency, West Java Province, Monday (29/3) at 00.40 AM experienced a severe fire. The fire that accompanied 4 (four) explosions shocked the surrounding residents who later became part of witnessing the burning of the largest oil refinery in Southeast Asia.
Meanwhile hundreds of fire engines were seen passing around the site to extinguish the blaze that soared into the sky. In fact, the flames appear to be getting bigger so it is difficult to extinguish.
No information has been obtained regarding the cause of the refinery fire with a capacity of 125 thousand barrels per day. However, there is a suspicion that it is related to heavy rains accompanied by lightning and thunder that hit vital equipment inside the refinery.
The burning refinery is Balongan refinery located in Balongan Village, Indramayu District, West Java.
To avoid unwanted things from the severe fire dampat terebut, officers from the police and TNI, finally closed the road access to the refinery. Whether it is the access of the new road Mrs. Tien Suharto-Balongan-Cirebon, or the access of the old singaraja-balongan-cirebon road. Authorities directed the drivers to turn back.
There were also officials who evacuated residents living around the refinery to leave their homes to a safer place. This is done to avoid the impact of pollution from the burning refinery.
The displaced people came from Balongan village which is the village located closest to the scene. In the refugee camp, Pertamina prepares covid 19 prevention equipment in the form of masks and hand sanitizer, as well as ensuring residents continue to carry out covid prevention health protocols.
Based on the description of the field officers said "At least 20 people were injured by the fire with 15 (fifteen) people lightly injured and 5 (five) people seriously injured, while 3 (three) people blm found, allegedly bounced into the rice fields while passing balongan road, after 7 (seven) people came home from boarding school, " He said.

Meanwhile, blackout efforts are still ongoing. Pertamina, Ifki Sukarya (Corporate Secretary Subholding Refining & Petrochemical) said, "Pertamina ensures the safety of residents around the scene by evacuating to Pendopo Indramayu regency and partly to the Islamic Center Indramayu... Pertamina brought hsse (Health Safety, Security and Environment) team from the nearest refinery unit namely Pertamina Cilacap Refinery, Pertamina EP, Pertamina Plaju Refinery and local Fire Department Unit to immediately work on the refinery fire," he said.
Furthermore, Ifki Sukarya said that, "For logistics, Pertamina will work with the indramayu district government to help provide consumption for residents in the refuge. In addition, Pertamina also prepares tarpaulins as well as the needs of other residents in the evacuation... As is well known, that at 00:45 in the early hours of this morning, there had been an incident that caused a fire in the T301G tank. The cause of the fire is not yet known with certainty, but at the time of the incident conditions were raining heavily accompanied by lightning," he said
Kilang VI Balongan is the sixth of seven refineries of the Directorate of Processing of PT Pertamina (Persero). The main business activities in the refinery that started operations in 1994 is to process crude oil from Duri and Minas into fuel products ( Fuel Oil), non-fuel and Petrochemical.
Regent of Indramayu and West Java Police Chief Review to the fire site
Indramayu Regent Nina Agustina directly reviewed the location of the fire at an oil refinery owned by PT Pertamina (Persero) in Balongan, Indramayu, West Java, Monday (29/3) morning.
Nina's arrival aims to ensure firefighters (damkar) act quickly to put out the fire.
Nina and West Java Police Chief Irjen Ahmad Dofiri reviewed the fire site. It has also coordinated with Forkopimda and Pertamina RU VI Balongan so that blackouts can be done immediately and affected communities are given treatment.
"Some of the people affected by the fire are currently accommodated in Pendopo Bupati Indramayu. Please pray from all residents of Indramayu so that this fire disaster can be resolved immediately," said Nina.
"Good morning, residents of Indramayu, fire disaster hit Pertamina Balongan refinery since the early hours of this morning. Until now blackout efforts continue to be carried out," Nina said in a post on her personal Instagram @ninaagustina.oficial, Monday (29/3).
