The President of The Republic of Indonesia Affirms, "Indonesia is a rule of law ... the law must be obeyed and enforced!"

BOGOR (Indonesia), OMIKAMI-TV - Indonesia is a state of law. Therefore, the law must be obeyed and enforced to protect the interests of the community, nation and state.

This was conveyed by President Joko Widodo in his statement responding to the events that occurred in the last few weeks, namely the death of 4 Sigi residents and 6 members of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI).

The President emphasized that it is the duty of law enforcers to enforce the law fairly.

"I emphasize that Indonesia is a state of law. The law must be obeyed and enforced to protect the interests of the people, protect the interests of the nation and the state. It is the duty of law enforcers to enforce the law firmly and fairly. Legal officials are protected by law in carrying out their duties," he said. President Joko Widodo after exercising bicycles at the Bogor Presidential Palace, Sunday morning, December 13, 2020.

Based on this, the public is not allowed to act arbitrarily and commit acts of violation of the law that are detrimental to society, especially if those actions endanger the nation and state. The legal apparatus should not be afraid or backward at all in enforcing it.

However, in carrying out their duties, the President reminded law enforcement officials to follow the rule of law, protect human rights, and use their powers in a fair and measurable manner.

"If there are differences of opinion regarding the law enforcement process, I ask that legal mechanisms be used," said the President.

The legal mechanism has regulated a number of procedures up to the judicial process with decisions that must be respected. If it requires the involvement of an independent institution, then Indonesia also has a National Human Rights Commission where the public can submit complaints.

"We must maintain justice and legal certainty in our country, maintain the foundations for Indonesia's progress," he stressed.

Also accompanying the President when delivering press statements was the Paspampres Commander Major General TNI Agus Subiyanto.
